Seeking Understanding

In our modern day technologies, we can seek understanding on most anything. It even seems at times to be an endless supply of knowledge, so we take it in and hope for the mastery that comes from that knowledge/understanding. We want to understand how things work, why things happen, and how we can make a difference or change, but it all falls under our own understanding of whatever we are seeking.

As a whole, none of that is a bad thing, unless we consistently lean on that understanding as truth. None of what we can take in is full understanding, there is always more.  For us to call ourselves “Masters” at anything, is a dangerous place to be, especially as a Christ Follower. God calls us to seek HIM, and for sure sometimes more time is spent seeking the understanding than just HIM.  Wonder what our lives would look like if we truly were seeking HIM as the Master, and not our own understanding. Most often we are seeking a peace of some sort, to fill some kind of emptiness or lack of knowledge, and it can consume the day or days in ones life.

So often we are seeking understanding to become the master of something..instead of seeking the MASTER, and living in HIS peace that only comes from being in HIS presence.

Proverbs 2:1-15 (ESV)

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom;from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.

Who is your Master? your own understanding? or the One who knows all things, and the only One who can give you true Peace? Know HIM, Seek HIM.

This speaks some much to my heart, because sometimes I get full of myself and I don’t make any room the Move of the Holy Spirit and find myself lacking and weak as dishwash.

How can a bond-servant be a Master? That a question that I have never asked myself.

  2. You are right, I need to seek God’s understanding so much more than my own. I think sometimes, I hindge on my friends and it causes me to fall fast. I am no master, never. I have many days, , minutes and seconds of growth and it all hindges on God. How great is my God. Thanks for the reminder. God bless you. love Tanya

  3. i posted today on one very good reason why we should seek and trust His Wisdom over our own. 🙂

Basically – we have almost no idea what is actually going on in this world, or our own life – ever.

God sees and understands far more than we ever could on our own – or even as an entire race!

  4. Ambe- i was thinking about that too, and came to the conclusion that only Jesus could ever be a servant and a KING..not me. Good to see you here..
