Blogged Bible Study – John 15 (Abide/Remain)

Abide-  men’-o

A primary verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy):—abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own. (strongs 3306)

When I am instructing my children of things that are the utmost importance…I repeat myself, Why? its critical for them to understand that it is for their best interest to know and understand what I am saying. Mostly those situations are to protect them and keep them safe, as I see a bigger picture than they do.  GOD is also a Parent in the sense of Heavenly Father, my Abba, and also my Yahweh…which means in this instance that HE sees the big picture, and desires to protect and keep us safe in HIS will.  When I am reading a  passage of scripture and I hear the LORD repeat himself over and over…Abide..Abide..Abide…Abide…HE is stressing HIS point.  Stopping and taking it to heart that it is most definitely something I need to learn, remember, apply, make it part of my life/home.   Abiding does not come naturally to us, we wander just like children..we see something that distracts us and maybe it glitters alittle, and before we know it we are not walking in the direction we set out for…not abiding or remaining.

Abide mentioned 10 times in the KJV/ Remain 11 times in the NIV  just in John 15, in an area of 13 verses.

Those that abide in Christ – John 15:1-8/ II John 9

Those that DO NOT abide in Christ – John 15:1-6 / II John 9

Who Abides forever  – Psalm 61:1-4 / Psalm 125:1 /

I John 2:17

Who Abides under the Shadow of the Almighty –

Psalm 61:1-4 /   Psalm 91:1

I can not speak for you or your walk with the Lord, I can only speak for me.  Abiding/remaining is more than just a belief system, it is where our belief system and our reality (life) actually come together.  I need to get back to this…Its important, its critical…my Abba said it to me 11 times in about 7 verses..

(NASB) John 15

7“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

16“You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

What an awesome promise! Abide in HIM, and HIS WORD abides in us, we will ask and it will be given…How? By abiding we will be asking for what is in HIS perfect will…HIS will becomes our will by abiding/remaining in HIM.  AMAZING!

  1. Yes this is amazing and it needs to be the primary focus of our lives. Do this and all the rest will fall together.

    Thanks for the reminder 🙂

  2. John 15 has to be one of my favorite chapters in the entire bible. John 15:15 is where I got started with My Friend.

  3. As you know I weep easily – I have not always done that. Christ has come to abide in me more fully – and as I abide in him he has chosen to break me and mold me – For papa, part of that means a heart that weeps very easily – I am abiding in him daughter. Your blog is always full of hope and encouragement for papa.

  4. Abide – yes. God doesn’t use His words loosely. He really wants us to park it right on His Word. Live there. The home is the place we always come back to. To recharge, to eat, to rest, to commune with those most important to us. He says this for us is to be His Word. That’s where He wants us to go for all of our most basic needs. And He will care for us.

  5. This is such a good study, Darla, and so good to refocus on this. Abiding and remaining in Him. Great way to start off the week reading this! Lots of love.

  6. Abide – to stay in a given place. To stay in Him…to stay in the place He has put me…to remain.

“we see something that distracts us and maybe it glitters alittle, and before we know it we are not walking in the direction we set out”

Oh, to have eyes to see and ears to hear…thank you, Darla. Deep stuff here.

  7. I love all your comments! Each one a piece of my heart. I see the unity in all of you, and for that I thank you!

Abiding…remaining…I know that God is the one who does the work in me, yet I want to learn to be still as the potter works, and instead of jumping down periodically and assuming it must be done for now…I have a lot to learn, and a long way to grow. But I am thanking GOD for all of you, who constantly sharpen me, and help me to keep moving on this road.

  8. We get so distracted and lost in this world and let the world lie to us that we do not need to abide in him.

At his feet Darla.. At his feet…Just to sit listen and Remain at his feet…

    Peace and Love sister

Darla: So true. Abiding. We make it so complex when it is really so very simple.

The great missionary John Hyde aka Praying Hyde was once asked how he knew what God’s will was. With a somewhat sheepish grin he said; “I try to stay so close to Jesus that I know the moment I have stepped out of His will.”

    THAT is abiding.

    Good stuff here sister. Thanks.
