Blogged Bible Study – John 14 (my virtual philosophy and approach to life)

I love this chapter, it has been a place where I have spent lots of time with GOD, and a place where alot of my searching began with HIM. Learning to love HIM and learning to know HIM.  I only picked one verse to write on, as it has been my path for many years…learning the command, applying, and seeking HIS face more than HIS hand…HE is amazing!

John 14:21  Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.   He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. (NIV)

KJV-will manifest myself

NASB-will disclose myself

Amplified-will show(reveal, manifest) myself

CEV-show you what I am like

Message-make myself plain to him

This verse John 14:21, has always been huge to me.  HE is saying that following HIS command being obedient is showing love for HIM, and it is reciprocated.  How I don’t know, but it certainly is a motivator. What is the greatest commands? The greatest command is: Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. It is mentioned 12 times in the Bible.  (Lev.19:17-18, Matt. 22:36-40, Mark 12:28-33, Luke 10:25-28, John 13:31-35, John 15:12-13, John 15:17, Romans 13:8-9, I John 2:7-11, I John 3:23, I John 4:21, II John 1:3-6)  I , in myself, am no brainiac, but if I follow this verse it says that I will know HIM more.

Praying daily to be empowered to Love HIM more, and to know HIM more.  This has been my prayer for a few years, and I believe that no matter how deep you go into these words, God means what HE says, and HE has penned this through John and others…Love ME, be obedient to me.  Why would we not want HIM to reveal HIMself to us?  So the mysteries of HIS revelations are here in this verse…”follow my command and this will show your love for me, and I will show myself to you”  I want every bit HE will show me in this mortal body, and to experience all that HE wants for me. This verse has become my virtual philosophy and approach to life.

Please check out the others who are participating in this study,  I always look forward to what stood out to them, and how it all fits together..LOVE IT!  Go here for the schedule of who, when and where.

  1. I think Gods greatest command is love. Showing his love to others is what i want most. darla – when I come to any blog and leave a comment, I want to leave knowing I have said words of love and encouragement. Papa loves you! praying your day goes well!

  2. I want to know more and more of Him. I see there is a process to getting there. As I continue to obey and love, He reveals more of Himself to me. So if I don’t really know Him, I haven’t been obedient, I haven’t loved Him.

    Thinking…thanks.

  3. Looking ahead a bit…

John 17 :25-26 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

    Peace and love sister

I also love this verse. I am going to be writing on the same thing tomorrow. It’s just one of those things you can come back to again and again and be challenged and encouraged by.

  5. ”follow my command and this will show your love for me, and I will show myself to you”

something so simple, yet so hard to do….

    I’m with you Michelle 🙄

  6. You all encourage me! I love learning, and most of all I want to know HIM more, and Love HIM more, I believe that as i do this…HIS love will spill out of me on those around me. Thank you for being a family to me, and for helping me to keep pressin on. Obedience, Love…repentance..obedience, love…life is learning process, and I am in the midst of it. Love you!

It is amazing how love is a motivating force. I love God so the natural response is to go out and love people. I think one of the reasons is because God is hard to love in person. On Christmas it is hard to give Him a present or send Him a thank you card. But when we say that we will express that love desire that we have for God toward another human being I think God is pleased. Kinda in that obedience thought.

    Thanks for the post.

  8. This theme of love seems to be popping up alot for me these last few days..maybe God’s tryin to tell me something! I went to a study on love last night and it was really challenging. We looked at the difference between our love and Gods love, the difference is HUGE. But I think the point of this scripture is that God wants us to get to the point where we DO love like him, and the only way we can get there is to get closer to him and to know him, for him to reveal himself to us so that we can be like him. So its like a cycle we go to him, he dwells in us, we pour out our love back to him and he pours more back into us. And of course when we are filled up we then pour that love out to others.

I know the frustrating thing for me at times is that I run out of love. but then I am realizing daily is that I cant give what isn’t in me. I have not because I ask not. I have not because I don’t go to him enough to get it (ouch!). It really is all about him, going to him DAILY and asking to be refilled. I think the problem is with us that we think we can handle it by ourselves…until we realize we are all out of love..and without love..what are we really?
    Hope that made sense!

  9. DaRonn, I agree that love is a motivating force… 🙂

ReHanna- your comment is exactly where I am at these days…I have no problem loving the unlovely in the world, God has built that in to me…but there are the ones who are supposed to know better and cause strife, and I have trouble loving them…each time I am confronted with it, I am back at HIS feet asking to be filled again with that love that only HE can give me..I am thinking this is a life long process, like you said…sometimes I am all out of love, and need repenished… Thanking God that HE is never all out of Love! lovin you Princess!

i cant get enough of getting to know more of Him. and it is His love that compels me to do so! and without the picture of His perfect love…i really dont think i could love others like i have learned to love them.

and i realize i just said LOVE a. lot!!!

  11. Tam=LOVE YOU! HIS love for me, and my love for HIM does compel me, and I want to be more like HIM than anything I can think of. Finding your face on here when I wake up always gives me great joy!

  12. DaRonn

Have always thought that true Biblical love requires an action and not just a feeling. John 14 kinda shows that.

    Thanks for sharing that.

  13. DaRon, I always tthought that too..and still do!

  14. Munch munch. I love how much this strikes of a marriage relationship. Who else knows all but the one to whom all is revealed? Nothing held back? To me it’s like (sorry, if this is a bit much for the blog) God is saying, “I want to get naked with you.” Naked in the original sense of course. Nothing hidden. Nothing held back. It’s so full of love. A great statement.
