Word Up!

2 Timothy 3:16,17

All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 4:2-4

Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

God has laid everything out for us to know the way, to know what HE wants from us, and HE has laid out what we are to tell to someone else.  This is all wonderful, but we still need to know our Word.  SO many are picking and choosing what they will believe and what they will teach.  And there is no such thing as partial truth. It is a truth or a lie.  God knows we do not understand completely everything HE has written.  But we are responsible, each one of us, to go to the Word and ask HIM for understanding and wisdom, for application.

I know we all fall into complacency with studying our Word, but this is urgency!  We need to know it, we need to apply it, and we need to stand firm on it.  SO many doctrines, so many come close and then fall apart.  Don’t be duped…with a small amount of truth…God is 100% truth, even when we don’t understand.  Get in your Word, talk to the only one who knows it well (the author), and get ready…Jesus is coming!!  WORD UP!

That is so true. I watched this movie, Luther, and the people of Germany did not have their own bibles. The priest taught it to the people. That is why Luther translated the bible to German so the people could read it for themselves. We have people today that go to church and have someone else read it to them and then they go home and never look at it again. How to you know what you are to do, if you do not plant is on your heart? It is so important to tell people about our Jesus and fill up heaven. I so believe and agree what you said. Amen

  2. Amen! The Word is a fountain of life…not to be taken for granted.

  3. All of these women are being lead astray by Oprah and her mixed, so called christianity with her new age bull!

  4. Selena- you are soooo right! it makes me sick…and there are others in the spectrum that have made a good name for theirself, but their doctrine is twisted..we really need to stay in the word..that is the only way to identify a lie when we hear it.

Love you girl, and I love you blog!

  5. Amen. Biblical illiteracy is one of the root causes for the failure of the church to be what it is called to be. Thanks for the poerful thoughts. By the way, I am impressed with how you capitalize all references to GOD. I usually capilize the first letters of He, Him, My God, Jesus and the like, but I like the respect shown towards GOD’s name! 7. This is so great, Darla. I love this encouragement to get into God’s Word and to really know it. It’s a real craving of my husband and me to hear teaching which is based around Scripture rather than just being motivational. We’re really conscious of the “itching ears” idea and want to be challenged by what God has to say through His Word. Thanks for this post 🙂

  8. We are leaving today for Oregon, and will back to check in on you all tomorow! Play nice, but still have fun! Hey pray for the Hannafords and the Hodges…seriously the Frantz’s are coming to visit. 😆 we will be on our best behaviour until Tam makes one of those faces she makes…Love them can’t wait to get there…

  9. Well for sure, Darla… I’ve sensed it as well (as I mentioned in my last newsletter) and am working it back into my life again on a consistent basis!

It’s too easy to neglect, too important to ignore!

So what are ‘we’ studying these days, since we are obviously in tune with the importance of the word?
We’ve been walking through the Gospel at our house with some friends on Saturday evenings. that’s how I became interested in the theme of ‘those who the Father gives the Son, whom the Son will not lose, nor will He cast out’. Who are they, anyway?

  11. I’m always late on your posts… 😦

This is great!!! It’s what gives me goosebumps!! It’s what makes me the most excited – to study the Word and show ourselves approved/tested. How else do we know how to live? So many want a watered-down version of the gospel, not understanding it is what washes us, it is what helps us to stand approved in His presence, it is the crux of the sanctifying process…Sanctify them in the truth. Thy word is truth.

Thanks, Darla. I think I need to post something meaty… 😉

  12. For man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Deut 8:2-3 [a;sp referenced in Luke 4].

God’s Word is essential to our understanding of who He is and what He desires. It is essential to our survival. We need to be spiritually fed and we need to be clear–God’s Word brings clarity. God’s Word brings truth. God’s Word erases confusion or double-mindedness about God’s expectation.

It is also one of our weapons against the enemyas Ephesians 6:12-15 clearly identifies. Jesus uses the Word of God to rebuke satan.

The Word is essential to our daily survival against principalities and powers in higher places.

Now my prayer is to be more disciplined in its study. I am good with my reading but not as disciplined with studying the Word. Don’t get me wrong; reading the Word has POWER, believe me it does, but studying the Word is important to fully understand what you are telling other people because if you do not have an accurate understanding, people will confuse you with questions, doubt etc.

Love you Princess. I know you are having a fabulous time already! XOX

  15. You are right on this one!! It is our responsibility to seek the truth of the Word!! We will not just get it by osmosis. We must seek it!!

    YEA! ALL scripture—-
I have finally made a commitment to read the ENTIRE Bible from beginning to end. Instead of simply the studies of here and there, it’s about time I get the whole picture.
So in October, I bought “The Bible In 90 Days”. Well, Ok. I’m doing the year and a half version!!! I’ll get there…
(Arrrggg—-Leviticus? Kings? Chronicles?—whew, can hardly wait to get to Psalms!)
Once I am through the whole book, I will then read some commentaries for illumination. Any good recommendations out there?

    Love you Darla!!!

You know it’s been a long time.. My husband’s illness is kicking my butt. Don’t ever think I don’t love you.
I just wanted you to know that Princess.

What an inspiring post, I love that God is 100%.
The Word of God somedays is only what I got.
    🙂
