I have been asked, why I would think I am an overcomer? This is my answer–
Because of the power of God that lives in each believer, we are empowered to not only overcome obstacles but to identify them. Obstacles are the things that would come between myself and my Creator. Anything that would go against HIS word, is setting us up for distance in our relationship with God.
John 16:33 …Take heart! I have overcome the world! (Jesus words, and as believers HE lives in us)
Romans 12:21 …Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil…
I John 5:4,5,6 …This is love for God: to obey his commands. And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it who overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
Revelations 2:7/2:11/2:17/2:26/3:5/3:12/3:21 (this is a good list to read..but not conclusive)
Revelations 21:6,7,8 … HE said to me: It is done. I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolators and all liars–their place will be in the lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.
The Word is talking here about the Overcomer inheriting Heaven and being in perfect fellowship with her Creator. God know we can not overcome by our own strength, that is why HE has made a way for us. We have the all surpassing power of HIM self dwelling in us. Out of our love for HIM we have to identify those things that would be permissible, but would have no benefit in staying in HIS shadow. In Rev.21:8 I was stunned by the fact that even liars are listed to the list of cowardly, unbelieving things that must be overcome. Actually this is a very interesting study, and one that I encourage each believer to do and take to heart. God is not just writing books for something to do…Revelation is written to the Church as a believer it is written to you. Peace and be an Overcomer!
THESE scriptures are such a comfort! Also, I need to see a pic of the new do!
Hey LOL on your comment!
If we can’t convince our friends we are overcomers, we won’t overcome. My testimony is filled with opportunities that I overcame. Christ is always there!
Jenny Hope- working on getting a new photo on here..I seriously relive my children at 2 when I read your posts.. 😆 plus they always encourage me to stay on track!
Papa- Amen and Amen! It seems that I have had several hits come in through the search engines “What is an overcomer?”, and “Am I an overcomer”. My testimony also shows that I am, and also the word of God points to it. Some people don’t know, and as the Lord prompts me I write…so someone needs to know that it is in there…and we all can use some reminders from time to time to stay on Track we are overcomers..so overcome! 😆
you not only KNOW you are an Overcomer – you LIVE like an Overcomer Darla! You know how much I love you and love THAT about you. You are OUT LOUD!!!
Thank you fro putting together this post with so many scriptures to back it up!
It’s very clear by His word exactly who we are. Now if we would just believe it. i mean, really believe it!
Love you!
My email has been broke since yesterday – i feel out of the loop…
You surprise me D… you were stunned by liars being in the list of things to be overcome in us??
You must have read and heard of this scripture surely?:
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
The Lord HATETH a lying tongue and a false witness that spreadeth lies – yet you were stunned we must overcome liars (and our own lies within us?) how can that be so?
How could ANY religion leave you so under-informed???
Especially one that is supposed to lead us toward the Love of God.
Why is it that so many Christians i find are so unaware of what we are supposed to be DOING! (or worse – who feel like it doesn’t really matter what we do – that He does it ‘all’ for us and we can be forgiven anything – even if we do it over and over and over again!)
Could it be that many Church heirarchy’s are more concerened with their own power over us than in saving our souls?
Or is it more our own fault for not understanding what Religion has long been trying to explain to us fully – for not paying 100% attention in Church but being distracted by our own ego’s away from God’s Will.?

Love- I am always impressed by God but sometimes even more when he lists what we would think to be big sin along with what humans think is lesser sin..its all sin to HIM, and we are to be trying to overcome it all…I actually agree with you! 😉
