Okay here is the deal…I want to hear from all of you on your favorite Christmas programming or movies…What is some of the things you do every single year at Christmas…???
I will start…I love Christmas shows, and I do mean the very young kind…Charlie Brown’s Christmas..little drummer boy…but my all time favorite Christmas movie is “the Christmas Story”…it just makes me laugh til I cry. The pj’s with the feet and bunny ears is too much for me to handle. I look forward to the simple things and laughing, and family time. Hot chocolate and popcorn..and when your finished eating popcorn, you can throw at each other, and that is fun too!
Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, and leave me a comment on your favorites…I may just try them!
Okay Darla, I’ll play:)
My favorite tv movies are all the children’s classics,
Charlie Brown, Frosty the Snowman, “the Christmas Story” is sooo great and funny and so staged in the time of my childhood. I also love the Walton’s Christmas” but I haven’t seen it in the past few years. I know it is sappy and so not like the family I grew up in. (Maybe that’s why I like it so much).
I love having Christmas Day at our house and have our “boys” 36 years old now, and their cousins. After a little Christmas Cheer and they loosen up, the stories of what really went on when they were younger start flowing out. We have heard some hum-dingers and cracked up over all of the things that would have terrorized us parents back in the days. I guess they feel safe enough not to get a whoopin now:) I love to hear the conversations, laughter, joking around, memories flowing. Looking at them and wondering how they got so old so fast. Lately now that I have a 2 1/2 year old grandson and a 2 week old granddaughter, it takes on even more precious meaning as I watch a new and fresh generation coming up. Children make the day so perfect with their excitement. And I love knowing that each person in my home has had a good childhood and a safe life, not having to endure what my husband and I had to go through. Nothing bad crosses our threshold. We keep a fire going in the fireplace all day long, eat way too much food, and thank the Lord for making it all possible. I always bake the family traditional favorites and send everyone home with bags of them. And the long distance phone calls that come throughout the day from family in Michigan and Arizona. It’s all good!!
After everyone goes on their way, hubby and I snuggle up on the couch and watch tv and enjoy the fire and reflect on the day. This will be our 39th year to do this and it just gets better each year. I will end my mini-novel now, but you asked.:) Love you bunches Darla and I hope you and your family have the most wonderful Christmas this year. This goes for all of the others who comment here too. Be blessed and may joy fill your hearts.
Love, Laurie in Ca.
Funny. I look forward to A Christmas story every year too. I do like The Grinch that Stole Christmas and the Charlie Brown ones too. THis year is the first one I realized that CHarlie Brown has a lot of Biblical stuff in it. That was really cool to me. I also like the Island of misfit toys rudolph. Too many to write really. I love that the girls and I can watch them together. Fun!
WIshing you a Merry Christmas!
Angela
okay
it took me 24 hours to remember if i’ve even seen any special Christmas movies or programs. i typically ignore “special programing” this time of year but i do remember one year i watched Jimmy Stewart in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. haven’t watched it since because i don’t like “reruns”. May your Christmas be blessed with the love of family and friends as you remember the real reason the Christ child was born in the first place – to become the God/Man who would take the sins of all of us upon Himself on the cross.
Mary P- I think you should watch the Christmas story movie, and laugh! Yes we have freedom in Christ, and we are allowed to laugh, and live (in every sense of the word). Life is a gift to be enjoyed, the past is gone, and we are redeemed, forgiven, and given a future…The Christ follower life is moving forward, and only remembering the past as what HE has saved us from! woooohoooooo party with Jesus! HE has removed it as far as the east is from the west. No more Bah-humbug, but rejoicing in what that True Christmas story has done for us…life now and eternal!
Urgh, TV is a horrible idea. I spend Christmas in the kitchen where I am safe from the TV and have complete control over everything.
Christmas Eve is reserved for ghost stories of course and there’s few better than “A Christmas Carol” and few better than “A Muppet Christmas Carol”.
Just keep the TV away from the Bond movie and I’ll tolerate it.
Hover- we are not so different! Merry Christmas and happy haunting!
My favorite is a little movie called Noel. It is a red Christmas ornament. He says “My name is Noel, I have a happiness.”
Darla,
I followed your link from my blog (growingingodliness.blogspot.com) and I am loving your blog!
I know this will sound crazy, but I watched It’s a Wonderful Life for the FIRST time last night! And it was so good! Very sweet…not very biblical, but good, clean entertainment! It may become a tradition for us! I also love Charlie Brown’s Christmas!
I must say, though, watching The Nativity Story at Christmas does help focus my thoughts on our Savior and the beautiful Word made flesh to dwell among US! GLory!
Have a very blessed Christmas!!
the Nativity story was very good! However the Christmas story wasn’t as good as i remembered..
😯 amazing the convictions that are now deep in my soul! Me-kids sit down and watch this with your mama…NO stop don’t watch this..bad mama bad mama! Don’t you just love how we grow from year to year..even at my age!
Today is Christmas and I’ve watched “Miracle on 34th Street” and “The Christmas Story.” My honey has a Clint Eastwood movie on now.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!
Blessings in Christ–
Merry Christmas Princess!!! Hope you had an awesome day!
We usually bake Jesus a Happy Birthday cake and sing to Him in the morning then have cake for breakfast…BUT – the last 2 years have been so crazy busy (horrible) we haven’t done it! I suppose we can do that any time of year huh!
Love you dearly!
